This just reminded me of Stevie Nicks or someone you would see at Coachella...shake that tambourine ladies!!!!

Day 38-Pilgrim chic
I just wanted to do something simple, no color just shape and layers. I ended up adding some blond hair because when I showed the original my my husband he asked: "Is that a nun or a pilgrim?"

Day 37-Silhouette
I am heading out of town for a wedding again this weekend so I am posting Sunday's paper cut early. I am a big fan of Jane Austen and other author's/novels of that time and I wanted to capture an old-fashioned feel with this paper cut, as well as one of my favorite things to do-reading!
Day 36- Origami Dress
I love Origami! And I wanted to create a paper cut that looked like it had some stylized construction and folds. I added the black piping in at the end to give it more of a pop.

Day 35-Painted Lady
So when I first started this project I thought making art for 100 days would be the challenge..but no...the real challenge is coming up with creative and witty Blog post titles (mine are seriously lacking, and also a work in progress).
Anyway today I thought I would do a mixed media cut. This was made with pen, ink, water color, acrylic, watercolor paper and card stock. The camera flattened out the layers, but you can kind of tell it is a paper cut if you look closely at the top image.
Best wishes for a great weekend!

Day 34-Saturated Lady
This was my first try doing a larger piece. I liked the idea of working with larger shapes but the face was tricky and didn't come out as well as I would have liked which is why you see lips only. I upped the saturation in Picassa to add some color and texture.

Day 33-Bon Voyage
This is based off of some free clip art pics I found on-line of cruise ships. I am really enjoying capturing a graphic quality with paper cuts. Bon Voyage!

Day 32-Lucy
I have been waking up really early lately and "I Love Lucy" is on. I love that show and I was inspired to do an old-fashioned color cut and black and white version.

Day 31-The Mad Hatter
Back from a fun wedding weekend, and ready to cut some paper. This was one of the more complicated cuts, lots of layers and building up and gluing small pieces. But despite some technical difficulties with the glue, I like the way it turned out and it was a good way to jump back into the week:)

Day 28-Wedding Bells are Ringing
Off to another wedding this weekend, yea! And I had some peonies that were destined for the garbage so I thought why not use them in my paper cut to make a beautiful wedding gown? I had a very simple silk wedding gown but I love lots of romantic layers and floaty, flowing fabric.

Day 26- Fisherman Dad
My father is an avid fly fisherman and I grew up enjoying (most of the time) the sport with him. I made this for him today for Father's Day.

Day 23-25: Silhouettes
I was away at a wedding this weekend and didn't get to paper cut or post so here are my cuts for the weekend and today. I tried to recreate the brides dress which had a beautiful mermaid drop waist with lots of ruching, but I think without building up layers of paper the effect gets lost. Then I felt like making some two-toned silhouettes that rely on shape more than color. I love the skirt on the soda fountain girl...what a good one for flouncing and traipsing. And now it's time for me to flounce. Have a great day!

Day 22-A Bit of Volume
Today I felt like playing with layers and volume a bit more than I have and a wing seemed like the perfect subject....and then I thought something a bit more comic-book-esque seemed in order. It was a challenge to suggest armor with only cuts, and no drawing or shading. So just in case anyone was wondering or has sensitive sensibilities, yes she is wearing clothes-big heavy metal ones.:)

Day 21-Playing with Color and Silhouette
Today was a hot day-one when you need to make your own shade...provided by a big hat...a very big hat...Enjoy the weekend!
Playing with layering color here... and shadows here.

Day 20-Harlequin
My husband sent me some pictures of Dia de Los Muertas masks for inspiration-so I made this for him. This came out a bit like a Hollow Mask (from Bleach a great anime/manga) and I liked the graphical quality of the black, white, and red.

Day 19-"When the Lights Go Down in the City"
I love that Journey song "Lights" and I heard it yesterday...and today I was looking at some other 100 days projects and happily stumbled onto Carol Mack's "Fiber of Urban Life." (link) It inspired me to make today's paper cut of a cityscape. I taped it to my lamp and -viola- the lights in my city.

Day-17 Playing with color
I decided to go back to fashion as a subject, and play with some bold graphical details and colors. I love the red border and how it shows through the black dress.

Day 16-Beach Babe
Here's to summer and relaxing at the beach! My husband took these pics and I love the angle of the larger one, but capturing the correct colors and all the small lines I drew into the figure proved difficult...I like the tonal effect but the details got a bit washed out. Try, try, again...tomorrow:)

Day 15-Mirror, Mirror
Another Fairy Tale picture-in-picture...this time the evil queen is looking in the mirror plotting to give Snow White the poison apple, while Snow White is blissfully unaware-singing to the birds near the cottage of the Seven Dwarves. The mirror and sun were a bit tricky... still working on learning what to cut and more importantly what not to cut. One wrong move and someone could lose a limb-literally!

Day 14-With a wave of my magic wand
Another day of fairy tale characters-this time Cinderella...I wanted to tell part of the story in her skirt, specifically when the fairy godmother works her magic and Cinderella heads to the ball. I have seen a few paper cut artist cut other "drawings" into different parts of their work and thought it was a cool concept. I like the silhouette just as much as the paper cut itself and thought I would post that too.
